Pre-launch

If the cables are cut, so does your group chat.

Even WhatsApp usually signs you in through servers abroad. Comms Kitchen is a backup chat account on UK-only infrastructure — ready for the day that stops working.

Why Comms Kitchen

The backup for the people you actually talk to.

Works when WhatsApp can't

UK-only, top to bottom.

Sign-in, servers and certificates all stay in Britain — so it keeps working even if the links WhatsApp depends on abroad don't.

Just the people you choose

No cold inbound.

Family, friends, a five-a-side team — 1:1 or group chats, with the people you've already added. Nobody else can reach you on it.

Nothing to learn

Looks like the apps you use.

Message, reply, share a photo — if you can use WhatsApp, Telegram or Messenger, you can use this. No training, no new habits.

Why WhatsApp, Messenger and Telegram might stop working

  • WhatsApp. Signs you in through Meta's servers spread across the globe.
  • Messenger. Same Meta infrastructure as WhatsApp — same dependency.
  • Telegram. Spread globally, with unknown dependencies across multiple regions.

None of them were built to keep working if the UK's links abroad are cut. Read the full risk case →

This isn't a replacement for WhatsApp day to day — it's a backup account, ready for the one day you need it. It only works between Comms Kitchen accounts, so the people you'd need to reach have to be signed up too.

You Run The Server.

All messaging apps talk to a server. You can either run one off a computer at home, or pay us to set it up in a local datacenter.

Then, if traditional messengers stop working, just give your family and friends accounts on your Comms Kitchen server and you're back in business!

Parliament's own findings

Parliament's own security committee says it can no longer rule out UK infrastructure being deliberately targeted — and isn't confident the UK could recover in time.

Ordinary day. Your messaging app, sign-in, SSL and DNS all cross the same subsea cables to reach servers abroad — riding the labelled route.

Running a team?

There's a version of this for work too.

Comms Kitchen for Business is a closed alternative to Slack or Teams — channels, admin console, and an on-premises option for sites that can't depend on the cloud at all.
